Welcome to Camp Alegria!

We are thrilled to have your family join our camp community. This handbook provides important information to help you and your camper prepare for an amazing experience. Please review this information carefully and keep it for reference.

Drop-off & Pick-up

Drop-off: 8:45 AM - 9:00 AM
Pick-up: 3:00 PM - 3:15 PM
Times may vary by program. Check your specific camp schedule.

  • Please arrive during the designated drop-off window to ensure a smooth start to the day
  • Children must be signed in and out by an authorized adult each day
  • Only adults listed on the registration form may pick up your child (photo ID required)
  • If someone else will be picking up your child, please notify us in writing before the camp day
  • Late pick-up fee: $1 per minute after the 15-minute grace period

What to Bring

Please label all items with your child's name!

Daily Essentials

  • Reusable water bottle
  • Sunscreen (applied before arrival)
  • Hat for outdoor activities
  • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Change of clothes (in labeled bag)

Please Leave at Home

  • Electronics (phones, tablets, games)
  • Toys from home
  • Valuable jewelry or items
  • Candy or gum
  • Money (unless specified)

Camp Alegria is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal items.

Meals & Snacks

Our culinary programs include hands-on cooking experiences where campers prepare and enjoy meals together. For other programs:

  • Snacks: Provided by Camp Alegria (morning and afternoon)
  • Lunch: Please pack a nut-free lunch for your child unless otherwise specified
  • All food prepared at camp is made in a facility that handles common allergens
  • Please inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions during registration

Allergy Note: While we take precautions, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment. Parents of children with severe allergies should discuss their child's needs with camp administration.

Health & Safety

Illness Policy

Please keep your child home if they have:

  • Fever (100.4°F or higher) within the last 24 hours
  • Vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours
  • Contagious illness (pink eye, strep throat, etc.)
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Head lice (may return after treatment)

If your child becomes ill during camp, you will be contacted to pick them up promptly.

Medications

  • All medications must be in original containers with pharmacy labels
  • A medication authorization form must be completed for each medication
  • Staff will only administer medications as authorized
  • EpiPens and emergency medications should be provided with a medical action plan

Communication

  • Daily updates: We share highlights and photos via email (with consent)
  • Urgent matters: We will call you immediately
  • Questions/concerns: Email us or speak with staff at drop-off/pick-up
  • Changes to pick-up: Please notify us in writing before 2:00 PM

Please ensure your contact information is always current. Update us immediately if your phone number or email changes.

Behavior Expectations

We maintain a positive, respectful environment where all campers can thrive. Please review our complete Behavioral Agreement & Code of Conduct.

Key expectations:

  • Show respect to staff and other campers
  • Participate positively in activities
  • Use appropriate language at all times
  • Keep hands to yourself
  • Follow safety rules and staff instructions
  • No bullying of any kind

Emergency Procedures

  • All staff are trained in first aid and emergency procedures
  • For minor injuries, first aid will be administered and you will be notified at pick-up
  • For serious injuries or emergencies, 911 will be called and you will be contacted immediately
  • Emergency evacuation drills are conducted regularly
  • In case of facility evacuation, you will be notified of our relocation site
